How To Style A Print Cardigan

Print cardigans bring excitement to Autumn layering and I have a real soft spot for a classic light neutral shirt paired with jeans under a printed cardigan.

"But why a shirt?" you might ask.

Well, let’s talk about the traditional purpose of a cardigan.

Originally designed as a knitted wool sweater with an open front, it was all about warmth and layering, without the struggle of pulling it over your head (no hair or makeup mishaps... thank you!).

And here’s where the magic happens.

If you’re out and about, getting a little hot and flustered (hello, perimenopause!), and need to ditch the cardigan, you’re still left with a fabulous shirt, one that pairs seamlessly with jeans, chinos, or wide leg pants.

It’s layering made easy, with zero hair or makeup styling regrets.

I’ll also be styling a navy shirt with both of these cardigans to take the look in a completely different direction.

Dark neutrals have a way of adding depth, contrast (with the light one), and polish to a printed cardigan, making the outfit feel more elevated and intentional.

dark neutral shirt under the cardigans will also create a longer, leaner silhouette, especially when paired with dark jeans, chinos or your super cute culottes.

And here’s another reason these cardigans work so well.

They’re both neutral-based prints.

A printed cardigan is easiest to wear when done in neutrals because it layers effortlessly over the top of all your other neutrals rather than competing with your outfit, it complements it, giving you endless mix-and-match options without the guesswork.
