Over 50 Makeup Routine
5 Ways Your Makeup Might Be Aging You (and how to fix it!)
Over 45?
As you head towards your 50s, and of course, those of us already beyond 50, your makeup might need a little update; what worked in your 30s can now settle, drag, or dull your glow.
Here’s how to turn it around:
1. Lighten the Base, Don’t Load It On
Heavy foundation is not your friend; it settles into fine lines and adds years. Swap it for a lightweight CC cream or tinted serum and let your natural skin shine through for a fresher, modern look.
2. Conceal Smart, Not Heavy
Concealer overload = cakey. Brighten dark circles under your eyes with a light peach-toned corrector, then use the tiniest touch of a darker concealer only where it’s truly needed, like around the nose, a blemish, or sunspots.
3. Creams Are Your Best Friend
Powders can sit on texture and make skin look even drier. Instead, reach for cream blush, bronzer, and highlighter; they melt in seamlessly, giving you that healthy, lit-from-within glow.
4. Frame Your Face with Brows
Brows naturally thin with age, but softly filling them in brings back balance and lift. Use a fine pencil or powder in a shade close to or one shade lighter than your natural hair colour, keep it soft and natural, not harsh.
5. Lift, Don’t Drag
Make everything work up and out. Place blush higher on the cheekbones, smudge liner upwards at the outer corners, and keep eyeshadow very light in colour on the lids with definition in the crease. Instant lift and brightness!
