Shoes That Go The Distance

How to build your best weekend, days off and casual holiday  warm weather shoe collection for each colour type.

When you’re building a wardrobe that actually works, and not one that overwhelms you,the goal is to collect all you need alongside only what you need.

Before we talk trends, personality, or getting creative, we always start with the same non-negotiable formula:

One light.
One dark.
One colour.
One print.

That little framework will never do you wrong.

It’s the quiet voice in your head when you’re wandering the shops… It’s the filter when the shoe sales start screaming at you online… And it’s what stops you from bringing home “almost right” pieces that end up confusing your wardrobe.

Once that thought process is locked in and without giving you too much creative freedom (because that’s usually where we all come unstuck), then we layer in the next step.

We start collecting the best versions of those pieces for you, based on your colour type.

Your skin tone and your natural contrast play a huge role in whether you feel comfortable, confident, and like yourself in what you’re wearing. This is where wardrobes either click… or quietly sabotage you.

So let’s start with: thongs.

For a Hair colour type, you don’t need twenty pairs but you also can't survive wih just one. You need four that do the heavy lifting:

• a white pair
• a dark brown pair
• a yellow pair
• a black-and-white print

And here’s an important trick.

While prints are brilliant, thongs are such a fine, minimal structure that most prints simply don’t have enough weight to stand up visually. Instead of grounding your outfit, they tend to fade into your legs and disappear, which can make your whole look feel bland or unfinished.

That’s why, when it comes to prints, I always recommend saving them for a more substantial slide rather than a thin thong. The extra surface area allows the print to actually do its job and support your outfit properly.

Eye Colour Types

Above are your four ideal options, although you can absolutely get away with just two, a gold pair and a print pair (keeping things beautifully simple, just how you like it).

• a white pair
• a dark brown pair
• a gold pair
• a black-and-white print

As an Eye colour type, you don’t naturally wear a lot of gold in your clothing, which is exactly why a gold thong works so well for you. It acts like a quiet neutral, reflective yet easy to wear, and brilliant for everyday outfits and packing for holidays.

On the days you do lean into gold in your outfit, simply swap the gold pair out for your black-and-white print instead. That way, your shoes still frame your outfit without repeating anything in it.

Creative and Vibrant Colour Types

Above are your options, and trust me, you need all of them! Why?

Because Vibrants, you can wear lots of colour (sometimes seven at once, wink, wink), and Creatives, your prints often mix multiple shades, so having extra shoe options makes it easy to swap and pair without thinking twice.

• a silver pair
• a dark brown pair
• a coral pair
• a green pair
• a black-and-white print

These choices give you flexibility, playfulness, and balance, making it effortless to match your personality and your outfit every single time.

When it comes to Birkenstocks or similar slides, it’s best to keep things simple.

They’re roughly four times the price of thongs, so keeping your budget in check while choosing the most versatile options is key.

You don't need all of these but if you love them, below are your best options to consider.
