The Reason You Own 5 of the Same Yet Slightly Different Black Pants
Do you kick yourself when you come home from clothes shopping (or your parcel arrives that you took ages to find online), look in your wardrobe, only to see that you just bought much of the same thing you already own - AGAIN?!
Well, guess what?
It's absolutely natural and there is a science behind why you just did that (and keep doing it over and over).
It's your brain searching for something familiar, something that makes you feel comfortable, something that you know, understand, and feels manageable.
It's your natural protective instinct and it's your brain trying to burn as little or no calories as it can.
I mean, who wants to learn how to wear something completely different and foreign to them when the time and effort involved in doing so would be way too hard?
It's not taking a risk on not knowing how to wear something new - and different.
But you still want new clothes...
... cos it feels good to shop.
It's a fine line, it's a mixed blessing.
It's a "Woo Hoo! New clothes!"
Then it's "Right, I'll just fold these under the other very similar pairs I already own. I'm sure I will get around to wearing them once the other 5 pairs wear out".
Only they never wear out and you still go on to buy even more - of the same.
So how can you stop doing this?
It's actually quite easy but it's something we tell ourselves is self-indulgent, a treat, and out of our budget (even though we keep throwing our money away on the same things we never wear and didn't need).
The answer is hiring a Stylist, finding a style mentor, or learning to do it for yourself (by joining a style course).
It's having someone teach you how to wear new things, and different styles and to embrace trend inspiration in your own wardrobe without having to buy anything new.
We don't start doing pilates without an instructor showing us how to move correctly to get the best results. The same goes for getting the best results in your wardrobe.
Your style needs to evolve along with and just like you are. You are not the same woman you were 1 year ago, let alone 10 years ago.
The way you dress tells the world a lot about who you are as a person, right now, today.
