Wrap Up Summer Scarf Styling Guide

Scarves are a perfect summer style staple for adding a touch of pizzazz to a relatively simple outfit, especially with more skin showing than during the cooler months.

When choosing and wearing scarves in summer, opt for natural fibres like cotton or linen, which feel light and breathable around your neck.

Always select a printed scarf to enhance your complexion, making it seem even and smooth in comparison to the scarf.

The key to choosing the perfect scarves is to start with a colour (always in a print) aligned with your best personal neutrals, beginning with your skin colour.

This ensures your scarf not only complements your complexion but also integrates seamlessly into your wardrobe.

  • Eye Colour Types: Focus on cobalt blue as your skin colour print scarf rather than softer blues shades. This will provide the extra lift that works beautifully for your natural contrast.

  • Creatives: Look for brighter oranges that align with your spicy, exotic aesthetic. These bold tones amplify your natural look.

  • Vibrants: Opt for a bright or deep peach print as your skin colour neutral. These shades enhance your complexion and energise your look.

  • Hair Colour Types: Choose scarves in your actual skin tones, from soft blush pinks to deep grape hues, to bring out your natural glow.

You get bonus points if you find a scarf that includes one of your best personal neutrals with one of your best colours (like my light grey, off white and rose brown print scarf above left).

And when wearing a scarf which includes both your best light and dark neutral, be sure to choose a different shoe colour that isn't represented in the scarf.

For example, with my navy and off white scarf on the right, dark tan shoes were the perfect choice for colour contrast.

This Is Not Based On Traditional “Seasons” colour analysis.

Maybe you’ve heard of “seasons”, “colour analysis”, “colour diagnosis” or even had your “colours done” before, like my other clients.

But after studying colour like a science, I developed what my husband calls “mutant eyes”.

I know that sounds like science fiction, but all that means is that my eyes are trained from years of studying colour theory and from working with thousands of women throughout my career.

"Seasons" never sat well with me, and the colours from the traditional system didn’t work for my clients.

I see undertones differently…I see clues beyond undertones and that it’s based on dominant genetic features (that’s why I can tell colour types so easily online inside my Boss program, even with blurry photos).

I Created My Very Own System With Four Colour Types: Eyes, Vibrant, Creative And Hair.

Of course, the way to determine your exact skin tone with absolute certainty is through a personal consultation with me inside my Boss of Your Wardrobe program.

But I understand that not everyone is ready for that step just yet.

That’s why I’ve created a simple two-step system to help you discover your skin tone and start building a streamlined wardrobe.

Step One:
You hold each Mood Board under your chin and note which one looks to suit you the best. It's the one that blends back with you. The one that looks to belong.

Once you’ve identified your skin tone using the mood boards—pink, peach, blue, or orange—you can use your Brilliant Colour Combinations eBook (aka Coco) to create hundreds of outfits tailored to your wardrobe.

Here’s how it works:

  • If you’re a Hair colour type, your skin tone is blush pink (found on page 64).

  • If you think you’re a Vibrant, your skin tone is soft peach (page 53).

  • If you’re an Eyes Blue Skin type, your skin tone is soft blue (page 29).

  • If you’re a Creative, your skin tone is soft orange (page 60).

For example, as a Hair colour type myself, I use blush pink on page 64 to guide my outfit choices.

Step Two:

Once you’ve found your skin tone page in Coco, make sure you look for your eye colour, a light neutral and a dark neutral, all on that page.

I hope that helps!
