Curly Hair Wash Routine
Your hair isn’t the boss of you; you’re the boss of it.
Decide how you want it to behave, lay down the rules, and watch those curls fall into line (well… as much as curls ever do 😉).
Here's the thing about curly (or wavy) hair: It doesn't need 47 products and a prayer.
It just needs you to be the Boss.
Here are a few simple rules:
1. Less really is more. You don’t need a shelf full of potions. If you’ve got the right products, sometimes one is enough. Take your cleanser: first wash clears away the day, second wash sits and doubles as a conditioner. Done. This means that your cleanser acts as a cleaner and a conditioner, just use it twice.
2. Water is Queen. Nothing can moisturise your hair better than water. Water is more important than oils, serums and hair masks. Keep adding water (especially if you have fizz). Your hair just needs a drink, only water can quench its thirst. Nothing will ever beat plain old H₂O. If your curls are frizzing, they’re thirsty. Keep adding water while styling. Think of it as your hair’s happy hour.
3. Shampoo is for build up, not every wash day. Shampoos will relieve your hair of product build up but if you are using the right products for you, you won't need to relieve it very often. Shampoo is the reset button, use it sparingly, not as a regular habit.
4. Conditoner isn't compulsory. Fine, thin hair like mine? Conditioner can flatten it. A quality cleanser often does the whole job. Don’t be afraid to skip if your curls tell you they’re happier without it.
5. Curls don't just happen. They need direction. You tell them what to do, and over time they’ll get the memo, forming faster, holding longer, and behaving the way you want.
Everyone's hair is different, and everyone's lifestyle and time available for styling are different.
The rules aren't rigid, but the Boss? That's you.
You like it smooth? Run your hands down your hair shafts with wet hands and make them marry each other.
You like it with a little frizz and volume? Over-scrunch the crunch. Keep going while pushing each scrunch back to your scalp.
At the end of the day, your curls don’t get to boss you around, you boss them.
When you decide how you want your hair to look and behave, you set the rules and your hair learns to follow.
And in my video below, I’ll show you exactly how I boss mine.
