Where To Wear Your Prints

Prints! Some love them and some are kind of scared of them.

Well, let's have a look at my journey of learning more about them over the last 13 years.

When I very first started out, there were no real rules (and I love a system and a rule), as to how and where to wear prints so it took me quite a few years to establish the perfect placement.

First of all, we know prints need to have a colour or a theme in common to work together but in order to not look messy, to not give a visual jumping all over-the-place experience, prints need to be kept to just one section rather than just chucked on anywhere we like (as pictured below).

Choosing one area to bring in that dramatic print and layering that same area with another print is much easier to take in, no matter how crazy the print clash may seem.

Below is a screenshot of me in a live explaining to the babes (inside their closed Boss group) how to wear their new collaboration print bag.

You just make sure it is touching the other print item to be considered in the same section.

It works! And it looks neat and stylish.

Then we have a print that changes colour (my ankle boots) along with self-pattern detail (my knit) which acts as a print when we aren't wearing a colour change print.

Note below how my print shoe is the true stand-out here, way more dominant than my self-pattern/print knit.

This is when you can separate your prints successfully without making anyone burn extra brain calories in settling on one place to look at your outfit.

And then below, we have another tip on not repeating a colour within your print, in your choice of shoe colour.

Pulling a colour out of your print to wear on your feet loses the impact of the print item.

See how my gorgeous blouse below, which doesn't have any black in the print (and is another design and colour collaboration piece) looks to be the one stand-alone statement piece.

Go on and give this a try for yourself.

You could use a top, a scarf, a bag or shoes.

I'm hoping you have at least one print item in your wardrobe to practice this with.
